In response to the Berlin Blockade, NATO (North American Treaty Organization) and the Warsaw Pact were formed to bring a number of different nations together in unity. As a result, an attack on NATO by Russia was seen as a stab at the entire organization, and could not be taken lightly. The first military action by the group took place in Bosnia in 1994. The Warsaw Pact was a treaty designed to encourage friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance, but with its creation came the re-militarization of the west.
