Summary: The Great Leap forward was one of the worst occurences that happened in the 20th century, but it is greatly overlooked. Mao went on the 5 year plan and the whole thing was negatively crizicized, Mao decideds China into 28,000 communes. They are going to use these groups to create public work projects, they didnt have the machinery and technology so they used muscle power. It became a disaster when they moved to small communal factories, where they would start producing things to become sell suffiecent i.e Silver. The workers did not know how to do this, they did not know how to produce steal and they produce tons of garbage and crop failures occured due to lack of farmers. This resulted in a HUGE famine. The food shortage killed 30,000,00 people.
