Outline the steps that brought about the end of the system of apartheid in South Africa in the 1990s?

Apartheid started when an all-white National party came into power in 1948. The African National congress was the most prominent resistance to Apartheid, eventually they ended up succeeding to remove the Apartheid system, but that is in 1980. It took more around 40 years to get rid of Apartheid, and it was not an easy task. Nelson Mandela was the first to take action against Apartheid, he led many unprivileged blacks in the Sharpeville Uprising. The Sharpeville Uprising was a protest to the pass laws, which was part of the Apartheid system, they were unsuccessful, 67 demonstrators were killed, and Nelson ended up in jail. The next uprising in 1976, Soweto Massacre, this event resulted in an increase of support for the ANC, mostly the youth. This is where is end of the Apartheid system is near. The resistance revolution, gains for the trade unions, imploding economy, formation of the Dutch Reform Church, and Mandela being released from prison all contributed to the end of Apartheid.
