Three Kings was filmed in 1999 focusing on the events the end of the Gulf War and USA affairs. While disarming Iraqi soldiers, Troy, Walter and Conrad Vig- to their surprise- found map in one of their bottoms. This map revealed several bunks throughout Iraq where Saddam has hidden gold stolen from Kuwait. Archie Gates, who intrudes on the three men trying to decipher the map, makes it his quest to find the gold- with the help of the three other American soldiers. The four keep the mission a secret, as it was illegal, and went for the morning attempting to retrieve the gold and keep it for themselves. As Archie and the other three men planned this to be a day mission, the whole plan went haywire as the soldiers couldn’t bear watching innocent civilians get tortured right in front of them. Almost getting away with the gold and Iraqi prisoners, Iraqi reinforcements managed to destroy their plan of evacuation and captured one of the American soldiers, Troy, who was tortured for several days. The mission later changed into a plan for saving Troy and helping the rebels cross the Iranian/Iraqi border. Through this mission, Walter was shot and killed and the American soldiers were arrested trying to help the rebels gain their freedom- which was an act against the Peace Treaty. In the end, the rebels got their freedom, in exchange for the three Americans showing the military where they stashed the gold.

To what extent were the conflicts between Iran and Iraq and Iraq and Kuwait fought over oil resources? To what extent were they religious?

The Iran-Iraq war mainly a religion war between Saddam Hussein and Ayatollah Khomeini, it lasted from 1980 to 1988. It started when the Shiites took over Iran, replacing the Shah with Ayatollah Khomeini. Obviously, Saddam Hussein response to the revolution was anger and violence. Although both opposing sides focused on gaining as much territory as possible, the focal point for the war was their different beliefs in religion. On the other hand, the Kuwait and Gulf War in 1991, focused on oil and resources. As George Bush proclaimed " No more Munichs", he placed sanctions on Iraq forcing them to pull out. A coalition of 30 countries was also created to stop Iraq, Kuwait was liberated within 4 days. All in all, resources and religion both impacted and initiated the wars that occurred in the Middle East.

To what extent did France and Britain make things worse in the Middle East region following World War I? Did the United Nations fulfill its mandate of trying to create world peace?

As a result of the separation of the Ottoman Empire, France and Britain, in 1916, they came to an agreement of dividing up the territories, of the Middle East, into mandates. The tension of the Middle East arose from there, mainly from the actions of the British. British had started reassuring Jewish people territory in Palenstine, while also promising the Arabs independence.  As Britain promised both countries similar agreements, the Arabs and Jews were in disputes since day one. When the Balfour Declaration came out in 1917, a deal promising Jews to reside in Palestine, thats when the tensions started to take place. When Jewish settlers started occupying Palestine, in attempt to avoid the rise of Hitler, the Arabs started to take aggressive possession of their land. The Arabs ford the Jews to leave Palestine, one of the reasons being that their religions were not in agreement and contradicted one another. To this day, the Arabs and Jewish people are still in conflict. Britain was seen as the great contributor of the disruption in the Middle East, while France just sat back and watched Britain create conflicts between the the Jews and the Arabs.
